Llan See Off Bont Challenge

Saturday 30th March 2013

Llan under 14s made hard work of beating Pontarddulais at Penygaer but nonetheless returned to winning ways.

Team:  Owen Flowers, Kyan Koszalski-Evans, Cian Bateman, Aled Evans, Rhys Davies, Rhys Austin, Jacob Owens, Tim Thomas, Jack Gilmore-Jones, Liam Jones, Jamie Phillips.  Subs:  Dylan Nicholas-Clark and Callum Cavill.

With some key players missing, the opportunity arose for other players to make their claim for a place in the team.  Those that came in did a good job and can be happy with their display.

Llan took the lead when Jack Gilmore-Jones capitalised on a loose pass by a Bont defender.  He produced a lovely, curling finish from just inside the area to ensure the keeper had no chance.

Tim Thomas then added a second for the home side as he latched onto a through ball taking it in his stride to find the corner of the net.

There were moments of opportunity for our opponents at the other end but a combination of luck when they hit the post and some good, resilient defending kept them out.

At half time, it was stressed that we needed to maintain focus and go for more goals to make the game safe and Liam Jones did exactly that with a determined run, seeing off several challenges before finding the corner of the net.

Llangennech were looking comfortable at this stage and were then unfortunate to concede a penalty which was given for a push.  The decision looked harsh but Bont took full advantage to pull one back.

Within a minute, the away side reduced the deficit to one goal as they ran at our defence who failed to stop the shot being taken from which they scored.

At this point, the momentum was with Pontarddulais and Llan showed excellent character to pick themselves up and control the majority of the remainder of the game.

It eventually finished 3-2 and three further points were secured.
