Girls Football Kicks Off In Llangennech

Friday 14th June 2013

Llangennech AFC's new girls football team have begun training as the club takes its first steps into ladies football.

It's the first time in the club's 31 year history that we've ever had a female team and we're looking for new players of all abilities to get involved.

The team is for secondary school aged girls (11-16).  Training will take place every Thursday evening from 6pm-7pm, behind the cricket hedge in Llangennech Park.

We're also delighted to announce that we have a female coach on board to lead the new side.  Tash Smith will work with the team having previously played for Landore Colts in the West Wales Women's League.

"Coaching Llangennech girls football team is an exciting opportunity for me", she told us. "I'm looking forward to my first training session with the girls. I've been a football fan since I was 7 and have played football for a long time. Coaching football will provide a new challenge for me and I can't wait to get going.

"It's an exciting time in women's football, with more coverage on television, and the amount of girls wanting to get involved is increasing which is fantastic for grassroots football."
