U18s Win The Cup

Tuesday 16th December 2014

A dominant performance at the Llandarcy Academy of Sport earned Llan the Luke Willis memorial trophy.

Llan earned their right to play in the final back in July when the Senior management decided to enter an under 18s side into Union Rangers' summer tournament to boost the players' match practice ahead of their first season in senior football.  All 13 players that played in this final are currently registered at senior level for Llan and all have played for the senior teams.

Team:  Leon Randell, Llyr Parkman, Rhodri Parkman, Cai Morris-Daniels, Tom Rees, Lloyd Francis, Jordan Badman, Daniel Phillips, Tom Roberts, Daniel Breddy, Josh Burdess, Fraser Dickson, Owain Thomas.

With the exception of the Parkman twins, our team would all be under 17s if they played at their own age group.  Our opponents from Bridgend play together every week as a youth team in the South Wales Youth League and after a tough draw at the summer tournament, we knew we would have to work hard to win.

The 3G artificial pitch at Llandarcy allowed for a fluid and fluent passing game which suited our players down to the ground.  From Leon in goal and the back four out, the performance was built upon patience patient build ups in which we passed the ball intelligently before creating openings for the ever threatening forward line.

The opening goal of the shortened 70 minute game came from Tom Roberts' exquisite finish after 20 minutes.  He'd been put through on goal by Dan Phillips' defence splitting pass.

Fraser Dickson added Llan's second mid-way through the second half with a terrific strike from 25 yards.  Full back Rhodri Parkman was again in an advanced position causing no end of problems for our opponents' right hand side.  His lay off gave Fraser the space to time his shot to perfection.

Jordan Badman rounded off the night with a wonderful strike from 25 yards.  It was thoroughly deserved and capped off a fine individual performance from the 16 year old.  He clearly enjoyed his key role in the centre of midfield for Llan.

The performance and result was a timely reminder just before Christmas of the potential of our senior squad.  It is so young currently as the majority of this cup winning squad have been in and out of the First team this season.  It will take time to convert youth success into senior success and patience is needed but for now we celebrate this excellent win!
