Davey's Double Sends Llan To Round Two

Saturday 12th January 2019

Llangennech are through to the second round of the Senior Cup after a 3-2 win at Caerbryn.

The long grass and soft surface made it difficult conditions to play football but Llan should have been out of sight by half time.

A Mike O'Mara header from Wayne Phillips's corner gave Llan the lead 20 minutes in.  Llan then missed several more chances allowing Caerbryn to equalise on 35 minutes and Llangennech were frustrated to be only level at half time.

A fast start to the second half saw Llan create a couple of good opportunities before David Lewis was tripped in the box.  He stepped up himself to put Llan 2-1 ahead on 50 minutes.

Llangennech were controlling the tempo of the match by now but were dealt a blow from nowhere when an attempted cross found the back of the net to equalise for Caerbryn in the 72nd minute.

But the response was determined and when David Lewis controlled Reece Sales' long ball ahead of the goalkeeper, you knew the ball would land in the net.  With an exquisite touch to lob the goalie, Davey ensured just that and Llangennech's passage into round two.

Team:  Reece Sales, Jack Reynolds, Chris Hickey, Lewis Williams, Mike O'Mara, Nathan Jones, Nathan Mcauley, Jack Yelland, Dan Evans, Wayne Phillips, David Lewis.

Sub: Chris Doran on for Dan Evans 70

Unfortunately Pembrey reserves could not field a team for our second team's league encounter at Llangennech Park.  As per league rules, we are awarded a 4-0 walkover.

The under 14's fielded 15 players in a close encounter with Peniel at Llangennech Park.  Well done to Adam Evans for scoring a hat trick and Jack Stone on his goal.

A further 10 players participated for us at Coleg Sir Gar in the under 8's festival.  A great effort by all involved as we continue to be impressed by how quickly they are developing.
