Llangennech 3-2 Johnstown United

Saturday 6th September 2008

Llangennech bagged three points from their opening league game of the season but were made to work hard for them by a youthfull Johnstown United side.

Paul Thomas opened his and Llangennech's account for the season with a well taken goal, blasting the ball into the bottom corner of the net after 20 minutes. However the lead lasted only ten minutes when a long ball was flicked down by their centre forward to his strike partner who made no mistake from just inside the box.

It took until the 70th minute for the next goal to come when Rhys Wakely's hard work down the left flank gave Paul Thomas the opportunity to put Llangennech back in the lead.

When Gavin Williams scored a typical poacher's goal five minutes later it looked as though the points were sealed for Llangennech but at the other end 10 minutes later United reduced the deficit to one goal when a cross/shot beat goalkeeper Martin Williams

That made for a nervy last five minutes for Llan and when they conceded a penalty in the last minute of normal time the Johnstown United players were already celebrating a two goal comeback. But the three points stayed with Llangennech thanks to a weak spot kick being saved by Williams in the Llan goal.
