Llangennech 3-1 Penllergaer

Saturday 20th December 2008

Llangennech bagged three valuable points from a crucial match against 2nd placed Penllergaer at Llangennech Park.  The match was an excellent battle between the two teams with Llan coming out on top in the last 10 minutes.

Managers Richard Thomas and Simon Davies were forced into two changes from the side that lost in Cross Hands four weeks ago.  Alex Dakin replaced Daniel Evans at right back with Paul Thomas coming in for the suspended striker, Gavin Williams.  Tom Ballard was the only sub after playing well for the Reserves lately.

The match flowed from end to end but it was Llan who took the lead after one of the first real shows of good passing football.  Curtis Roberts found Paul Thomas six yards out with a low cross to give the top goalscorer his 8th of the season.

Llan held the lead until about fifteen minutes into the second half when Penllergaer scored a header from a free kick which the keeper should have claimed.

Then with ten minutes remaining a break-away from defence gave substitute Tom Ballard the opportunity to put Llan ahead again which he took with a neat finish.

With the last kick of the game striker Christian Williams added a third goal which seemed to cure his cramp which was the sole reason he was playing up front in the first place!

The win puts Llan three points behind second place with two games in hand over the three teams above them.

There will be no training this week.
