Llangennech u10`s enjoy a break in the bad weather in a hard fought win away at Loughor

Sunday 18th January 2009

It`s hard to believe that our last game was on the 6th of December 2008 a home game vs Calsonic, that game was won in style with good hat tricks from Peter Watts, Dylan Clarke and Eray Wilson two goals from Liam Fry (in a mom performance from him) and a very good goal from Ben Mathews it was a very good team performance against a Calsonic side that came flying out of the blocks and never stopped trying, however once we started passing the ball more the goals went flying in. Since that game bad weather has prevented us from playing and training as often as we would have liked so it was good to see the sun shining brightly and a break from the bleak and icy conditions of the last two weeks or so. In a game originally scheduled for Saturday the 17th because of the weather and state of the pitch it was moved to Sunday morning.

Squad for Llangennech :- Bethan Williams, Alisha Maides, Sam Walsh, Liam Fry, Liam Jones, Dylan Clarke, Ben Mathews, Celt Thomas, Jack Grey and Keir Mehta.

1st quarter:- In a very even opening to the game after good defence from Bethan and Alisha Llangennech started to stamp our authority on the game and several chances went begging, Ben Mathews having found some excellent positions was unluckily unable to convert, we eventually made the breakthrough with goals from Liam Fry (2) and one from Liam Jones however Loughor got themselves back into the game with a sweeping move and a crisp finish ending the 1st quarter with a deserved 3 - 1 lead.

2nd quarter:- Into the 2nd quarter the game continued to be an end to end affair Liam Fry completing his hat trick with a good run and finish some good goal keeping from Sam Walsh helped by sterling defensive work from Keir Mehta and Jack Grey kept out Loughor until a cracking long range effort eventually beat Sam. At the end of the 2nd quarter Llan held a 4 - 2 lead.

3rd quarter:- Early on Alisha struck from close range to extend the lead to 5 - 2 however Loughor were not finished yet and they scored two fine goals to peg us back to 5 - 4 and once more solid defence from Keir, Sam,  Jack Grey, and from excellent work from the two Liams who covered every blade of grass allowing us to go into the final quarter with a very slender 5 - 4 lead.

4th quarter:- at the start of the final quarter saw Loughor pressing very hard for an equaliser and Llan were indebted to Goalie Celt Thomas when after a certain goal looked likely bravely threw himself at the feet of the Loughor`s striker blocking his effort the clearance was complete with good work from Jack and Alisha. Shortly afterwards after good work from Liam Fry and Ben the ball eventually fell to Dylan who showed a true poachers instinct and finished from close range making the score 6 - 4, however showing true grit and determination back came Loughor but more resolute defending from Llan saw us home 6 - 4 winners. Man of the Match went again to Liam Fry well done Liam, special mention to Ben for stepping up to the plate and being goalie for the 3rd quarter, good to see Sam getting stuck in with some good tackles, our ladies Bethan and Alisha continue to shine for us and it is good to see Keir, Jack, Liam J, Liam F and Dylan maintaining the good standards they have achieved so far well done boys and last but not least well done Celt for that brave save which turned out to be the key moment of the match da iawn fachgen.

It should be mentioned that games vs Loughor1 should carry a government health warning as they are always so close and great credit should be given to both teams for a thoroughly entertaining match well done to all concerned. Thanks to Loughor for being, as always welcoming hosts, and to Nigel Lewis Loughor`s u10`s coach for the work in getting the game on. Keep it up boys and to training in the barn Tuesday night and more hard work to come.
