Llangennech 2 Llanelli A 1

Saturday 31st January 2009

Llangennech overcame a spirited Llanelli A's side at the Park.  Goals from Steffan Cook and Gavin Williams put them two goals up before the A's pulled one back late on.

Team:  Martin Williams, Christian Williams, Nathan Phillips, Steffan Cook, Ian Morgan, Darren Dickeson, Dean Williams, Tom Harris, Rhys Wakely, Curtis Roberts, Gavin Williams.  Sub:  Adam Edwards.  Subs not used:  Simon Davies, Ian Williams.

An even first half ended 0-0 with Llangennech probably having the upper hand possession wise although the only real incidents of note were the two disallowed goals for the A's, both for offside.  At the other end, the closest Llangennech came was a Dean Williams effort which was hooked off the line.

In the second half, Steffan Cook put Llangennech in front against his old club, firing in from close range after a goalmouth scramble.

With five minutes remaining, Gavin Williams gave the hosts a two goal cushion tapping in from close range as the keeper could only parry a Curtis Roberts shot.

A disappointing aspect of the game was the missed chance to keep a clean sheet with the A's capitalising on some slack marking to pull a goal back with just 30 seconds left on the clock.

It's another three points for Llan which keeps them in fourth place, six points of the promotion places with three games in hand.  Next week is a break from the promotion battle however when we visit Towy Valley in the Challenge Cup Third Round.
