Llangennech U11's V Pontlliw

Sunday 8th February 2009

Llangenench played this game away on the astroturf pitches of Treborth AFC in the Daniel James community school. Due to the weather this was the only game played on the day as all grass pitches were frozen, and it even snowed through most of the game.

The team:  Owain Thomas, Ieuan Thomas, Scott Wilson, Tim Thomas, Nathan Wooldridge, Danial Breddy, Jordan Badman, Lloyd Francis and Tom Roberts.

Llangenench started brightly and dominated the play, they were first to the ball and played great football which was rewarded with 2 goals from Tom and 3 from Jordan in the first quarter.  Score 5-0

The second quarter saw team changes and Llangenench take their foot off the pedal, as Pontlliw came back into the game with some determined play. Pontlliw are a good side having only lost 2 games all season by close margins and they again showed fighting spirit as they scored a number of goals to Llangennech's 1 in this quarter score 6-4.

Pontlliw really had the bit between their teeth and attacked Llangennech constantly. The Llangennech defence creaked a little to concede 2 goals for Pontlliw to take the lead, Llangennech pulled one back in this quarter to set up a tense and dramatic finish score 7-7.

Llangennech had to come out and show character if this game wasnt going to be lost. All players gritted their teeth and battled for every ball and started playing the way they have all season, only one goal came in this quarter but it could have been a few more. The winner came from the tenacious Lloyd Francis who worked tirelessly along with the others. Credit must also go to Pontlliw for such an exciting game of football.

Final score Llangennech 8 Pontlliw 7.
