Penllergaer 3 Llangennech 1

Saturday 21st February 2009

Llangennech were knocked out of the cup at the Quarter Final stage at the hands of fellow Third Division side Penllergaer.

One change was made to the team that beat Towy Valley last week, with Paul Thomas replacing the injured Ian Morgan.

Team:  Martin Williams, Christian Williams, Nathan Phillips, Steffan Cook, Dean Williams, Tom Harris, Rhys Wakely, Darren Dickeson, Dai Thomas, Paul Thomas, Gavin Williams.  Subs:  Curtis Roberts, Alex Dakin, Tom Ballard.

Llan suffered the worst possible start when they conceded a penalty in the 2nd minute of the match which was powerfully converted.  The home side doubled their lead when a free-kick hit the bar and went in off Martin Williams in the Llangennech goal.  They then added a third ten minutes before half time when the ball fell to the Penllergaer player who was in acres of space 18 yards out before lobbing the keeper.

In the second half Penllergaer rarely threatened the Llan goal as the away side surged forward looking for a way back into the game.  A Penllergaer forward was sent off for kicking central defender, Steffan Cook.  Alex Dakin pulled a solitary goal back for Llan twenty minutes from the end blasting the ball into the back of the net after his first attempt was blocked.
