Llan and Cwmgwili conjour up a mesmerising performance

Thursday 5th March 2009

The home game vs Cwmgwili took place in glorious sunshine befitting "Dydd Gwyl Sant Dewi". The first quarter started off brightly with both teams showing their attacking intent Cwm taking an early lead through an excellent long range effort. Llan rallied well and showed their own attacking capabilities going close on a couple of occaisions before the 1st quarter ending with Cwm holding a slender 0 -1 lead. At the start of the second quarter Llan came into their own and took command scoring two well worked goals one a long range effort from Eray which the Cwm goalie was very unlucky not to keep out almost injuring himself in the process, the second goal was a short range effort from Liam Fry after good work down the wing by Keir, however Cwm were not finished back they came and only some very stout defending from the Llan defence superbly marshalled by Jack Grey and some very good stops from Sam Walsh, the 3rd quarter was to follow very much the same pattern with end to end football and very good defending on both sides Sam following up his good performance in the second quarter with another making several good stops which in the end was to earn him a mom award, well done Sam. Catrin Breddy had to leave the field after one of several brave challenges  Llangennech were now in full swing with intelligent passing out of defence from Alisha and some excellent probing runs from Keir, Eray, Dylan and Peter, hard work from Celt and Ben assured the Cwm defence didn`t have a moments peace and the two Liams took the game to Cwm. Cwm having soaked up the pressure with some good defending of their own broke and applied some good pressure up the other end Jack Grosvenor stood up well making good saves, Llan were now under intense pressure from a Cwm side that threw everything including the kitchen sink at a resolute Llan defence but Cwm almost snatched a share of the spoils, and not undeservedly either, when they broke through Jack Grosvenor forced their man wide but amazingly slipped the ball through the ball flew towards the Llan net only to be cleared on the line in what was a match winning clearance by Peter Watts, still Cwm pressed forward even being joined in attack by the Cwm keeper in one last desperate attempt from the last corner of the game the ref ended what turned out to be an excellent game and its true what they say it takes 2 good teams to make a truly good game and full credit must go to the Cwm team and coaching staff as they played the game in the true spirit that it should be played in and were always very sporting both coaches were very proud at the end.
