Llangennech 6 Tafarn United 1

Tuesday 14th April 2009

Nathan Phillips and Ian Morgan returned to the side while Mike Jones also earned a call up due to the absence of Chris Coslett and Darren Dickeson in midfield.

Team:  Martin Williams, Paul Thomas, Nathan Phillips, Steffan Cook, Ian Morgan, Tom Harris, Rhys Wakely, Jonathan Dakin, Mike Jones, Gavin Williams, Dai Thomas.  Subs:  Nick Maguire, Chris Coslett, Keiran Davies.

Tafarn took the lead through a good finish from ex-Llangennech man Gareth Hatto after 20 minutes which seemed to kickstart Llan into life.

They equalised ten minutes later after a period of domination through Gavin Williams' shot from inside the box.

Despite Llan continuing to press they conceded a somewhat harsh penalty five minutes after their goal.  The first goalscorer Gareth Hatto stepped up to take it but it was saved by Martin Williams in the Llangennech goal who then got up to save the rebound.

Jonathan Dakin then put Llan in the lead two minutes later with a neat touch and shot on the turn beating the keeper from a corner.

Before the half was out, Llangennech were awarded a penalty of their own but unfortunately Gavin Williams' effort hit the post meaning the lead was 2-1 at half time.

A tight opening to the second half was ended by a Dai Thomas goal from inside the box ten minutes into the half.  Gavin Williams quickly made it 4-1.

Tom Harris got on the end of a Rhys Wakely cross to add the fifth before Steffan Cook scored a free kick from ten yards inside his own half with ten minutes to play.

Llangennech have now played the same amount of games as first placed Jays and are currently three points behind them.  Richard Thomas and Simon Davies' men need another thirteen points from their last seven games to secure promotion if Penllergaer maintain their current winning run until the end of the season.

Next up, Llan travel to Llangain on Saturday to face fifth placed Johnstown United who have won their last seven games.
