Johnstown United 1 Llangennech 1
Saturday 18th April 2009
On a day when all of the top three teams all slipped up, Llangennech missed the chance to move within touching distance of Jays at the top of the table. Penllergaer's defeat meant that the gap to third increased to seven points.
Team: Martin Williams, Paul Thomas, Nathan Phillips, Steffan Cook, Ian Morgan, Tom Harris, Rhys Wakely, Darren Dickeson, Chris Coslett, Gavin Williams, Dai Thomas. Subs: Christian Williams, Nick Maguire.
The very narrow pitch created an environment where any throw in taker could look like Andy Legg or Rory Delap but United were far more effective at creating problems from them, hitting the post and having an effort cleared off the line in the first half.
At the other end Llangennech seemed to want to take a touch to many when presented with scoring opportunities, while Darren Dickeson went close with a couple of free kicks.
United took the lead with twenty minutes left of the match when a free kick was knocked into the box, an aerial challenge resulted in a loose ball, which the home team reacted quicker to firing a shot into the back of the net.
With ten minutes left Llangennech eventually found an equaliser, Dai Thomas' shot was parried by the keeper but Gavin Williams followed up to level the scores.
Two minutes later there was a golden chance for Dai Thomas to win the game for Llan. However he scuffed his shot and saw his effort loop up in the air and cleared off the line, with the Llan players and support claiming the ball had crossed the line. Unfortunately the referee was not in a position to give the "goal."
Llangennech will now look to get back to winning ways on Tuesday night when Porth Tywyn are the visitors to Llangennech Park.
