Llangennech 4 Carway 1
Saturday 2nd May 2009
With Penllergaer not in action, Llangennech knew exactly what was needed to secure promotion: A win. And goals from Dai Thomas (2), Paul Thomas and Curtis Roberts secured the return to Division Two after two seasons in Division Three.
Team: Martin Williams, Alex Dakin, Christian Williams, Steffan Cook, Nathan Phillips, Paul Thomas, Tom Harris, Chris Coslett, Mike Jones, Gavin Williams, Dai Thomas. Subs: Curtis Roberts, Rhys Wakely, Dean Williams.
Llangennech took the lead after confusion between the Carway defence and goalkeeper allowed Dai Thomas the chance to head the ball into an empty net after fifteen minutes.
Paul Thomas then doubled Llan's lead after a fine move of quick, short passing tore the away side's defence appart and presented Thomas with an easy finish.
After the break Curtis Roberts added a third for Llan when his persistance paid off, shrugging off several challenges from Carway players before firing a shot passed the goalkeeper.
Carway then grabbed a goal of their own when Llangennech failed to clear properly after a save by the goalkeeper. The ball was crossed back into the box where a Carway player was unmarked at the far post given an easy finish.
But Llangennech made sure of victory with Dai Thomas finding the net with twenty minutes to go.
With promotion secured, Llangennech now focus their attentions on catching Jays who occupy top spot. To do that, they will probably need to win all of their games, including next Saturday's crunch match against Jays and hope that either Penllergaer or Bancffosfelen can take points off them in their remaining games.
