Llangennech Can Have Last Say In Group One
Friday 10th August 2007Last night Llangennech picked up their first point in Star Cup Group One against tough opponents in the shape of Division One side West End United. As the matches on paper have got harder in this group, Llangennech have put increasingly better performances in since their opening game 6-1 defeat at the hands of Llan Rads.
A determined performance at Calsonic a week later was deserving of at least a point but Rich Coslett's team finally got their just rewards for a determined performance on Thursday night.
Curtis Roberts, Chris Coslett and new signings Rob Winser and Chris Pike scored Llangennech's goals, and with West End equalising in the last 5 minutes of the match Llangennech may feel that they deserved all three points after dominating large spells of the match.
The result means Llangennech can not now qualify for the quarter finals of the competition but ironically could yet have the biggest say in who goes through.
Calsonic clinched top spot with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Llanelli Radicals on Friday night, which means that the only way Camford can spare their own blushes and qualify would be to beat Llangennech on Saturday at Penyager.
The match is not meaningless for Llangennech of course. A win for them would give a massive moral boost to the squad ahead of a challenging campaign to win promotion from Division Three and would also mean they would avoid finishing bottom of Group One.
Players are meeting at 1pm in The Castle Inn on Saturday. There is also a reserve match against Cross Hands which is a 2pm kick off.
