Tumble 8 Under 14's 1

Tuesday 22nd September 2009

A depleted under 14's team hit the road on Monday night to take on Tumble in their fourth league game.  The injury list is mounting so early in the season and everyone at the club would like to wish both Corrie Jenkins and Baris Hakman who suffered breaks on the weekend a speedy recovery.  With Dafydd Green and Josh Watkins also absent the entire back-bone of the team was ripped out.

Team:  Jordan Saunders, Mark Evans, Josh Evans, Jack Evans, Callum Jenkins, Kieran Partridge, Macauly Simon, Jordan Frampton, Nathan Baker, Steffan Lund, Jordan Davies.  Subs:  Steffan Edwards, Aaron Thomas.

Llangennech kicked off the first half and played some neat football in spells but a lack of shape saw Tumble get in behind us to score four times, despite the best efforts of Jordan Saunders who made several good saves while deputising in goal.  Llan's best chance came near the end of the half when a superb ball forward by Jack Evans allowed Macauly Simon to beat his man before playing the ball to Nathan Baker who played a great ball across the face of the goal but the Llan players failed to get a touch on it.

The second half saw us play more good football, but again only in spells.  Our shape was much better with Jack Evans doing an excellent job as a make-shift sweeper, and the wingers Kieran and Macauly giving us more width when we got the ball.  Unfortunately Tumble also upped their game and scored three of the best goals we will concede this season.  One was a fantastic free-kick which no keeper would have saved, rocketing into the top corner.

Despite being several goals down, Llangennech never let their heads drop, in stark contrast to last Monday's game at Bont.  They were rewarded for their efforts when Jordan Davies found the net, following up on a Kieran Partridge shot that was saved after Macauly Simon's excellent run and cross.

In summary, the players all gave 100% effort, but if any game shows the importance of keeping your shape this was it.  We limited Tumble to shots outside the box for most of the 2nd half as oppossed to the first half where we let them in one-on-one with Saunders several times.  Unfortunatley for us the quality of their long-range shots was fantastic on the night.
