Reserves Go Out Of Darch Cup
Sunday 31st October 2010
Llan's Reserves put up a brave fight to give Reserve Division One side Pengelli a real scare in the 2nd Round of the Darch Cup.
Llan went ahead early in the 2nd half, but the home side eventually turned it round to win 2-1.
Without a number of players, Llan made several changes from their game the week before. Craig Anderson returned between the posts whilst Molly Williams slotted into defence and Emir Hakman moved back to fill the gap at left back. Alex Owens and Gareth Murphy also came into the team.
The home side started the game brightly but found it difficult to get past Llan's makeshift defence. And despite having the better of the play, Pengelli were almost caught out towards the end of the 1st half but Tom Ballard saw his left-foot effort go wide.
Llan's hard work and effort paid off early in the 2nd half when they took a shock lead. Mathew Williams' high ball into the box wasn't cleared and Tom Ballard fired home from close range.
The lead wasn't to last long though as Pengelli equalised with more than a touch of fortune. After creating the opener, Williams turned the ball into his own net after Llan failed to deal with a cross into their box. Pengelli had the momentum from that moment on and soon they forced a second goal. A pinpoint ball over the top of the away side's back four left a one-on-one with Craig Anderson in goal, and the striker finished well.
With time running out there was still time for another great chance for Llan to take the game into extra time. A shot from outside the area was spilled by the Pengelli goalkeeper only for it to hit Mathew Williams and go agonisingly past the post.
Pengelli held on to go through to the 3rd Round but were full of praise for Llan's battling performance at the final whistle.
The Reserves next game is at home against Swiss Valley on November 13th.Tweet
