Under 16's 0 Seaside 10

Wednesday 30th March 2011

This match at Hendy kicked off with just 10 players on each side.  For Llangennech it meant a last minute rethink as the game plan went out the window with players failing to turn up without notifying the Manager!

Team:  Mark Winser, Adrian Perkins, James Veck, Luke Stanton, Rhys Henly, Oliver Furneaux, Adrian Nagorski, Jordan Fox, Levi Jones, Jack Whittall.

Firstly thank you to the ten players that didn't bottle it!

I asked for a battling performance before the game against a side that we know keeps the ball very well.  In the first half we did just that.  Seaside were restricted mostly to shots from outside the area with their goals coming from probably the only three mistakes we made in the half.  I can't blame individuals because those mistakes were from players who I was forced to play out of their preferred positions.

At half time we lost our goalkeeper with a worrying injury which we now know was a concussion.  Seaside exploited the extra man in the second period but we made things far too easy for them by standing off the man with the ball.  This was in complete contrast to the first period where we got in their faces and stopped them playing too much.  A mention though for Rhys Henly who made a superb penalty save.

We must learn from this performance about the importance of keeping your shape when you don't have posession of the ball.  The difference between the 1st and 2nd half performances was staggering.

It's Loughor next at Penygaer on Saturday.  The whole squad now needs to take responsibility for our league position and sort it out before it's too late!
