Pleasing Workout For Llan

Saturday 23rd July 2011

Llangennech were defeated in their first friendly of the season but came away with plenty of positives from the game against Andrew Kirkhouse's Wellfield side.

Although planned as a First Team friendly, Llangennech were without several regulars from last season's promotion winning team.  None the less, Nathan Phillips, Christian Willams and Jonathan Dakin marked their return to the club while debuts were handed to no less than five youngsters - Jack Evans, Jordan Saunders, James Veck, Shaun Dunn and Jordan Fox.

Wellfield dominated much of the game showing composure on the ball and it was evident to see why they have just been promoted to the Premier Division.  They went 2-0 up into the break following two goals from close range in the first half.

Tom Harris scored a couple of goals for Llangennech as they fought their way back into the game but Wellfield secured a third goal to seal the victory.

The match will have provided much needed match sharpness to the players involved as they prepare for another gruelling season.  It was especially encouraging to see the five youngsters making impressive debuts and we hope to see much more of them over the coming months.

Squad:  Martin Williams, Tom Dakin, Ian Morgan, Steffan Cook, Tom Harris, Mathew Williams, Johnny Dakin, Mike O'Mara, Nathan Phillips, Jordan Saunders, Jack Evans, James Veck, Shaun Dunn, Jordan Fox, Alex Owens, Alex Dakin, Christian Williams.
